Information from Yancey Health Department

Yancey County School Families:

Recently we have seen an increase in illnesses within the County. Some symptoms include:

  • extreme fatigue
  • fever
  • sore throat
  • head and body aches
  • swollen lymph nodes in the neck and armpits
  • rash
  • cough

Due to the rapid spread of the illnesses we want to remind you to keep your child out of school and school related activities until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medications. They also should feel well enough to participate in daily school activities.

If you are unsure about returning your child to school after a recent illness, please contact your primary care physician, school nurse, or one of the nurses at Yancey County Health Department. We will discuss your individual needs and help you make a plan that works for your family.

We appreciate your help as we strive to keep Yancey County healthy.

Sincerely,

LaCosta Tipton RN, BSN

Public Health Nursing Supervisor II
